Head of Operations

About The Role - This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Head of Operations to lead a complex project team for the site of global organisation Sulzer, in Buchelay, West Paris. The successful incumbent will report to the Senior Operations team based in the UK under a matrix leadership structure.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the Project management on new build pumps for the contract owned by the organisation.
  • Promote the implementation of good project management practices, in particular on risk analyses, the management of cross-functional teams and the analysis of feedback. Provide reliable information for forecasting billing, margin, and delivery times.
  • Provide steering/support in the management of certain critical projects for the company (complex projects – financial, technical, legal issues).
  • Ensure the reporting of the progress of critical projects to the Group.
  • Manage the project management and business follow-up team of new products (pumps) for the company.
  • Implement an integration process for new hires to explain the project culture, with agile profiles.
  • Promote the compliance with safety rules (particularly around the group’s safety programs).
  • Ensure the implementation of project risk analyses to implement the relevant preventive measures.
  • Optimize the profitability of projects through cost control, and when possible by winning “change orders”.
  • Ensure that payment terms are triggered to customers as soon as possible according to the milestones specific to each project.
  • Ensure the formalization of feedback at the conclusion of project implementation.
  • Provide the Management and the finance department with all the necessary information (order intake, invoicing and margins) for the preparation of monthly forecasts.

Stakeholder Management

  • Unifying role of the internal teams with the management of the customer interface at the same time.
  • Manage and lead a Project team (design, quality, purchasing, sales, tendering).
  • Work with all the company’s teams (legal, sales, testing, services, quality, purchasing, machining, engineering.
  • Expert in the field of managing major and complex projects with multiple levels of stakeholders.
  • Direct team management and transversal management.

Key Competencies

  • Mechanical skills (mechanical technical culture).
  • Proven project management skills (minimum of 7 years in the management of major projects in demanding technical environments, such as nuclear, Oil & Gas, precision mechanics internationally).
  • A certification in major project management is essential (Project Management International “PMI” type).
  • Financial skills / management control of a project: knowledge of major financial indicators (Intermediate Management Balances such as EBE, Cash Flow). Ability to go into a detailed approach to the financial monitoring of the project.
  • Management of key indicators / KPIs: OTD (Hourly delivery) and Gross Profit (margin).
  • Customer & supplier relations skills (the ability to manage supplier relations is fundamental to the position).
  • Knowledge of project planning (MS project).
  • ERP skills (project monitoring under ERP, SAP type).
  • Fluent in English C1.
  • EPC knowledge.

Qualifications / Expertise

  • Safety and security rules applicable in the nuclear environment.
  • Compliance with safety and security requirements during on-site movements.
  • Engineering/Manufacturing or Operations related degree preferred.
  • 5+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
  • Comfort working with multiple groups within business.
  • Fluent in English and French
